The Machu Picchu mountain (with an altitude of 3,082 masl) is part of the eastern foothills of the Salcantay massif, in Cusco, Peru.
Machu Picchu was discovered by the American anthropologist and historian Hiram Bingham in 1911. Archaeologists estimate that this city was built in the middle of the 15th century. Today there are many hypotheses about the role that was attributed to this inaccessible city.
